I am doing genealogy research and I am looking for an obituary in a Cape May County newspaper.
The cost for the search of an obituary is $5.00. The information that is needed to start the search is the full name of the person, the month, the year, and if possible the day of death.

There was an historic event or site in Cape May County; could I have more information about it?

Sorry, we do not search for the history of a house in Cape May County.

I would like to know where I am on the hold list for a book.
Click on a library catalog then click on the tab My Account
Type in your library card number
Then click on Holds

How do I request a book?
First, search the library catalog:
Click on library catalog
Search for a book by title, author, subject, or keyword
From the search result list click on request item
OR click on the title for more information about the book
On the title information page click on request item
Type in your library barcode number then click login
Select where you want to pick up the book and then click request
If you were unable to find the item in our catalog, then you can request the item using this link - http://www.cmclibrary.org/request_book.asp

I would like to renew the items that I have checked out.
Click on a library catalog and then click on the tab My Account
Type in your library barcode, click on Checked Out.
Click in the box next to the book that is to be renewed, then click on renew at the top of the list OR Call any library branch to renew the books.
Most materials in the library can be renewed ONCE for an additional 28 days.
The following can not be renewed – new books, materials on hold, videos

I can not access My Account from the library catalog.
Make sure you library barcode number was typed in correctly - it is a 14 digit number beginning with 16475.
The card could be expired or the information may no longer be in the system.
Stop at your local library branch and update you information.

Remote Patron Access will not take my number.
Make sure you library barcode number was typed in correctly (14 digits beginning with 16475).
Make sure your card is active – Click on a library catalog and then click on the tab My Account and Type in your library card number
If your name appears in the upper right corner the card is active
If the login failed – your card could be expired and the information is no longer in the system.
Stop in at your local library branch and update your information.

I tried to access a database and the site is asking for a username and password.
Make sure you are connecting to the databases through Remote Patron Access

How can I access the databases from home?
5 of the databases can ONLY be accessed from in the library =- Ancestry, Accessible Archives, LitFinder, Informe, WestLaw.
In the database Newsbank the Press of Atlantic City can not be searched from home.

To access the Databases from home
Go to the Library’s homepage
http://www.cmclibrary.org
Click on Online Databases
Click on Remote Patron Access
(must have a Cape May County Library card)
Type in your library card number (it is under the barcode)
Under Authorized Links (on the left side of the screen)
Click on the database you want to search
When finished searching the databases click FINISHED in the left-side frame.

I need to use a computer, what does the library have available for use?

To use the Internet
1. You need a Cape May County Library Card, for residents the card is free
If not a resident of the county there are 3 choices
Summer Non-resident - $30 Early May to Late September
Non-Resident - $90 per year
(the above two cards allow borrowing of materials and use of the internet)
Internet Only - $10 per year
2. Guaranteed ½ hour on the internet when there are people waiting, limited to 2 hours per day
3. All the Internet workstations on the 2nd floor at the Main Branch and most of the ones at the branches are connected to a color printer $.20 per page
4. The Internet at the library is filtered. The security on our network can make some sites inaccessible.
5. Can not download or upload from the Internet workstations. Internet workstations are not equipped with Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word and Excel are available on separate computers.

Download/Upload Computers
1. The Main library has 2 computers that can Download/Upload.
2. Use is restricted to ½ hour due to high volume
3. Use is limited to upload/download procedures.
4. Information can be transferred via floppy disc, USB port or CD (D: drive is read only).

Wireless Internet
1. Stop at Circulation or Reference Desk to sign a Wireless Internet Policy, and then receive the username and password
2. “Library staff is not allowed to configure patrons’ laptops, nor can they provide assistance in getting connected to the wireless network,” however, there are written instructions available. Please note that the instructions for Apple Computers are different.

Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint
1. Sign up at the Reference Desk (Circulation desk at the branches)
2. Not connected to the Internet
3. Guaranteed 1 hour on the computers when they are busy.
4. Can save to a 3 ½ floppy disk or a flash drive
5. $.20 per page to print, color printer
